After a slight decrease of the EEG-fee in the year 2015, the 2016 fee for the end user is increased again. Main reasons are the still decreasing wholesale electricity prices and a strong increase in the off-shore wind energy capacity in Germany.

The EEG-fee is understood to be the general measurement of the costs of the energy U-turn in Germany.  Therefore the regularly published EEG-fees by the TSOs in Germany on the 15th of October each year are a important figure.

This time the EEG- fee for the year 2016 has increased to 6,354 ct/kWh after a slight decrease in 2015.

The EEG-transfer system is mend to cover the differences between the total payment of all feed-in tariffs from renewable energies under the support of the EEG law and the wholesale price of electricity, at which the produced electricity is expected to be sold.  These two parameter are influencing significantly the development of the EEG fee. On one side the expected income stream from selling the electricity on the wholesale market in 2016 might fall.   A figure of 14 % decrease in the sales income compared to the year before is expected. Additionally the total amount of the feed-in Tariff will increase due to a higher installed capacity of off-shore wind energy (CEEN reported).

The difference costs will be distributed on the consumption of all end users, which do not have a privilege of EEG-fee reduction.  Due to some significant changes in the privilege of the EEG-fee reduction, the specific amount of the EEG-fee per consumed kWh did increase. For the year 2016 there are no significant changes expected.

The EEG-fee will remain a significant benchmark of the energy U-turn in Germany, which is due to the systematic approach very transparent.
