More offshore wind capacities are connected to the German public grid. In the year 2015 more than 2,000 MW will be connected, which will increase the total capacity to a level of more than 3,300 MW.

According to a publication of the offshore wind energy association published on the 12th of July 2015 in the first half year 2015 new wind capacity in total with 1,765.3 megawatt (MW) of 422 single wind mills have been connected to the grid.

In German waters therefore until the 30th of June  2015  668 wind units with an total installed capacity of 2,777.8 MW have produced electricity. 90 units more will be connected soon to the grid adding additional 380.7 MW and for 84 units the fundaments have been constructed.

Therefore the branch is expecting to have in the year 2015 approximately 2,250 MW of new offshore wind capacity connected to the grid. In the North and Baltic Sea it is expected to have until the end of the year 2015 3,300 MW of wind offshore capacity up and running. This triples the capacity compared of the end of year 2014 capacity of 1.049,2 MW. With expected full production hours of 4.200 hours a year an electricity production of 13.8 TWh is expected out of the 3.300 MW offshore wind capacity, which is equal to 2.3 % of the total German electricity demand.
