China Huadian Corporation is one of the five biggest power producers in China and owns roughly 135 GW of power generating capacity. The state-owned company currently generates about 10 percent of China’s power. Earlier this year the renewable energy unit of Huadian announced a reduction of its renewable energy targets due to ongoing grid bottlenecks.

It was reported that almost 20 percent of Huadian’s wind power output has been curtailed in 2015, lowering the interest in more renewable projects. Therefore only 1 to 1.2 GW of wind should be installed this year.

However, the Deputy General Manager of Huadian, Yang Qingting, announced a push for more renewable projects after an internal meeting. Accordingly, Huadian aims to build 3 GW of wind and 5 GW of PV in 2016 and 2017. According to Azure International, the revision of the targets highlights the Chinese government’s intention on adding more renewable energies and to push for grid integration technologies. Huadian also laid out a CO2-reduction target for 2020. More renewables will therefore help to reach those goals.
