In the first 6 month in total 43 offshore wind energy units with a total capacity of 258 megawatt went online, as the foundation of offshore wind energy (Stiftung Offshore-Windenergie) published in a press release. Therefore the current total capacity of offshore wind energy farms being online on June, 30th 2016 from 835 units is 3,552.2 megawatt. Additionally there are 54 units with a capacity of 342 megawatt expecting to have their grid connection soon. From 142 units the basements have been constructed. Market players are expecting to have a total additional capacity of 700 until the end of the year to have grid connection. In the German North and Baltic Sea the total capacity will reach almost 4 gigawatt. The average capacity of each unit did increase from 4 megawatt to 6 megawatt. Most of the units become more efficient by using longer blades.
