With the approval of its National Wind Power Development and Construction Plan 2016 the NEA put a target of 30.83 GW of new wind capacity to be installed in 2016 on the map. Given serious curtailment of wind power in the provinces of Jilin, Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Ningxia and Xinjiang last year, no new wind capacity has been allocated to those regions. Even though the installation of 30.5 GW of new wind power capacity in 2015 was considered to be a record, the target for this year’s additions is even higher.

In its National Wind Power Development and Construction Plan the NEA also requests the grid operators to actively cooperate with wind power project developers in order to facilitate timely construction of grid connections for new wind parks.
