In a decentralized energy market the digitalization offers potential to create innovative new business models. The diversification of the market players is growing and small and new player have the possibility to join the market. One example is the first trade of electricity based on a blockchain in New York.

The blockchain technology verifies transactions, and is also the backbone of Bitcoin. In a blockchain all transactions are recorded decentral, peer-to-peer in a crypto problem. The verification of these transactions is done by so-called miners, who are solving the crypto problem. The results and the verification of the transactions will be distributed as copies to the decentralized peer-to-peer network. By distributing a high number of copies the blockchain cannot be manipulated.

In recent times a new generation of blockchain has been established, the so called smart-contracts, which are able to verify transactions of many different business models. The most famous and most liquid smart-contract blockchain is the Ethereum Blockchain created around Vitalik Buterin.

The Solarpraxis Neue Energiewelt AG organizes a conference „Blockchain for the energy world 2016“ in Berlin on the 23rd of May 2016.

This conference is unique in the German energy market and clarifies current questions of the digitalization in the energy market.

  • Blockchain and Bitcoins: What are the ideas, players and visions behind them?
  • How do business models and electricity trading change?
